Show Wives man fashion line-up w w a m -m - - - by GARY LESSER Chronicle Staff While the world's police chiefs were downtown Tuesday busily discussing how to mace hippies and stop other criminals, their wives were in the Union Ballroom being entertained with the best in music and fashion Salt Lake has to offer. The afternoon was billed as "Western Hospitality," and was an attempt at giving the wives of the conventioning tops of cop shops something better to do than watch the tube in their hotel rooms. Corn for lunch It all began with a typical luncheon lun-cheon menu, complete with breaded veal cutlet and the rest of the stock 1A banquet food, and a chocolate eclair for dessert. All the while, the "Roving Trio" serenaded the munching sows with music cornier than Iowa. Then, as the eating began to be a thing of the past. Salt Lake's international in-ternational vocalist (that's what it said on the program) Hooeri Peterson held the ladies spellbound with his renditions of "For Once in a Lifetime," "Try to Remember They were you," and some of his favorites from the musica "Brigadoon." Peterson even went the nostalgia route, giving the ladies "one of my all-time favorites, -You make me feel so young, a 1946 hit. Flunkees parade Jackie Nokes, Channel 5's -Midday" hostess, was the mistress of ceremonies for the 1 I f I I f f : 'Hi ! ; ! 1 V ' fashion show that got underway after Peterson made his exit. The 11 models, mostly flunkees from modeling school, came direct from the Salt Lake Police Dept. With makeup by Makoffs, and fashions by Wolfe's, the models paraded up and down the two runways, chiefly in ski duds, but some had after-ski wear, and others were attired simply in cold weather outfits. Girls look for fit Each outfit was described in detail, as Jackie gave the ladies every available bit of information from "That's Connie, she's a keypunch key-punch operator" to "it has a front fly (so?)." "Red is always considered a happy color. Girls these days are looking for a good fit in pants-they're pants-they're not content with baggies anymore. Isn't she charming?" and so the commentary went, throughout the 22 attempts (two each) at Dior turns and other fancy moves. Donna McCurdy, donning a fur collar with casually slashed pockets and a body sweater got an"lsn't that gorgeous?" comment. She reminded Jackie to say that people now are very conscious of brand names in ski wear, and because of the fairness doctrine, most brands were mentioned several times over. Bundle of fur As Mary Ramos, another keypunch key-punch operator mounted the stage, the comment was "All you can see is a great big bundle of fur she did have clothes on k-highlight k-highlight of the show mi,., been the halftime music, a si-Dixieland si-Dixieland band, com'posi-Milwaukee com'posi-Milwaukee policemen.
