The final Papoose tally was the result of a 63-yard drive led by Blaser, himself carrying the ball for an 18-yard gain, looking more like a high hurdler than a football player. Ladouceur carried the ball in from nine yards out. The extra point by Hardy was wide of the uprights. Head Coach Dale Johnson said after the ballgame, "We're as good as we tfTought." Half-time score was Utah 15, Snow 0 Utah started the second half by punting after three downs, only to have their drive reiyvenated by a roughing-the-kicker penalty. After some fine passing by Lancaster Lan-caster and a 30-yard run by Ladouceur, Owen carried it in from the four-yard line. The next drive was engineered by Kincanon for 80 yards by some outstanding passing. Kincanon After fumbling the next punt, the next two times the Papooses got the ball they scored, including a one-yard plunge by Hutchins and a fine 61-yard run by Ladouceur that was almost broken up behind the line of scrimmage. Both kicks for extra points, however, were blocked making the score 15-u, Utah. . Utah was unable to score in the second .quarter due to a very fine defnsive effort by Snow. However, Snow was unable to score, also, by CRIS COLEMAN Chronicle Staff Offense and defense was the name of the game as the freshman football team put them both together by handing Snow College their fourth loss in five starts, 35-6, while extending their own winning streak to 16 games. Offensively, the Papooses ran for 269 yards on the ground and added another 169 yards in the air. Added to this was another 139 yards via punt and interception returns. Defensively, they gave up only 42 yards rushing and 164 yards passing, while forcing punts nine times, themselves punting only three times. There were outstanidng performances per-formances all around for the Papooses. However, running back Robert Ladouceur, who ran for 133 yards in only 11 carries, had to be the star of the show. But in reality they were all stars. Running back Carl Owen as well as fullbacks Roosevelt Hutchins and John Huddleston each turned in fine running games. Even the performance per-formance of the subs, when the regulars sat out, was good. Combining for the fine passing attack were Steven Kincanon, Richar Lancaster and Robert Blaser. Each led drives that resulted in Papoose TDs. Utah got on the scoreboard the first time they go their hands on the football, as a result of good field position after a 35-yard punt return by Carl Owen. However, they had Randolph Hardy after they failed to sustain their drive. |
