Show Painting, clean-up work head tomorrow's 'Outreach' plans the house this Saturday. Nannette Pederson, this year's Outreach chairman, extends an invitation to all of you to "go beyond U...and join us." This weekend people from the University and East, West, and South High Schools, will pitch in to clean up a residential area located within the People's Freeway Satellite Satel-lite Center. Anyone else interested in donating do-nating his time to this effort, should join the crowd meeting Sat. at 8 a.m. in the Union parking lot. Over 2,000 people are expected to participate. Equipment Donated Paint, brushes, and other equipment are being donated by 22 local businesses, and another 25 city firms have donated money to cover expenses. The University Planning Office and the Department of Engineering are making available 12 trucks and a number of shovels, rakes and repair tools. All trash collected in the area will be dumped for free, according to Commissioner Steve Harmsen. ' The clean-up activities are being co-ordinated by Ina Anderson, environmental co-ordinator of the Satellite Center, and by Dorothey Pulley, center resident and block leader. Sam Clark, a student who has been making surveys of the homes to receive Outreach aid, said he interviewed in-terviewed one man who said he would either give $100 or paint a picture for the Outreach program, if he could get help painting his home. Sam said he knew the man probably didn't have $100, and told the man a picture would be great. Donation Pledged Several requests from individuals have been sent to the Outreach chairman asking for help in their areas. ar-eas. One request came from a man who is a disabled veteran with seven kids. He said he and his family fam-ily had been living in a one-bedroom one-bedroom apartment but were f oced to move by authorities who pronounced pro-nounced the living situation "hazardous." "haz-ardous." The family finally found a small house, but the government won't allow the family to move in until the house is painted with paint provided by the government. Disabled helped Since the man is disabled, with no help in sight, it may be a while before his family can move in, he said. Outreach volunteers will paint |
