Show ASUU REPORT ; by Clark Campbell t There is freedom on the campus 'of the University. We the students are responsible for preserving this freedom. Neither the administration, administra-tion, faculty, alumni nor the community com-munity at large is committed with this same two-edged sword. It is said "If you want to win you have to risk losing." Freedom is not inherent in-herent it must be earned and ought for. Many battles are lost in Ihe defense of a principle and it's Ihose whose internal motivation reuses re-uses to let them down that emerge xiumphant. ASUU provides the method to ex-ircise ex-ircise and defend our freedom. "He who thinks for himself, and rarely fmitates, is a free man." On our :ampus we find many professors md students advocating differing eelings and beliefs around Presidential Presi-dential candidates, politics in gen-jral, gen-jral, abortion, birth control, capital punishment, immorality, the reality if God, the necessity of an established estab-lished religion. This weekend was highlighted by the 142nd semi-annual Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Aany of these issues were discussed dis-cussed and expounded upon by he General Authorities of the Church. These problems are blessed with an abundance of answers. Where do we stand? Do we have an opinion or are we lukewarm, fence pole sitters, people pleasers and crowd followers? The time has come to climb off the fence and start pushing, push in the direction you feel good about. Are you concerned about this newspaper? Apply for Publication Publica-tion Council. Are you concerned about our public image? Work on PAC Council. Are you concerned about students who can't afford college? Work on Outreach. Are you concerned? Work on Legislative Legisla-tive Relations, Homecoming, Participation Part-icipation 72, Student Volunteer Corps. Make your opinion count -bring it to the Union Board, or the Assembly on Thursday afternoon. ASUU has $600,000 of your money and has your assemblyman done one thing for your college with these funds? The strength of ASUU and this University rests on the awareness, decision, and committment of its student community. (Applications available in Union North Wing) |
