Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR description of McCarthy is needed, we suggest two books; "McCarthy and his Enemies" by William F. Buckley and L. Brent Bozell and "The Assassination of Joe McCarthy" by Medford Evans. However, let us reiterate: The purpose of the Fund is NOT to vindicate McCarthy. That has already been done. Our purpose is to provoke thought concerning Conservative ideals; capitalism, limited government, individualism in-dividualism and freedom. If your apathy is stirred and real thought is provoked, we will have succeeded. If you don't wish to think about it or to investigate the facts, it's your unfortunate choice. In any event, please refrain from future smear-tactics. Joseph McCarthy Memorial Fund Sorority Answers Editor: We would like to extend our hearty congratulations and a round of appause to Queen Phillita Carney. We are extremely impressed with her femininity, which is made apparent by her gracious use of the English language. As 1971 University of Utah Homecoming Queen and a representative of all university women, we feel certain that she will impress the entire community com-munity just as she has impressed many of her devoted subjects on First South. Loyally, The Sorority Bitches Patricia Zundel Karen White Jean Taylor Sherrie Whitemore Rolyane Mattsson Kris Monsen Jayne Blai Chris Zunich Jennifer Holly Cannon Sharron Albrecht Ann Palmer Kathy Harmston Cydney Cardner On Phillita Editor: The Homecoming Queen is supposedly a liason from the U campus to the community, elected to encourage citizens (especially alumni) to participate in the Homecoming festivities, thus integrating (no pun intended) in-tended) the campus and community. com-munity. As a good will ambassador, am-bassador, I find Miss Carney lacking. It seems paradoxical that she could call Creek girls "bitches" "bit-ches" and yet turn around and graciously invite Creek alumni to Homecoming. As she approaches the TV, radio, and civic club engagements this week, I hope she keeps in mind the fact that she represents the campus as a" whole and not just one segment of bigoted Blacks. Shonnie Stillman More on Phillita Editor: One thing puzzles me about Phillita Carney's statement concerning her reaction at being chosen Homecoming Queen. "Excuse the language, but I was pleased as hell to see the shock on those sorority bitches faces when they announced I was queen ..." Miss Carney is quoted as saying. That group or individual in-dividual who would be accepted and understood in society for whatever reason might well consider the value of extending this same acceptance and understanding un-derstanding to others. I am as offended when one implies that sorority girls are "bitches" as I am when someone suggests that blacks are "niggers". Miss Carney has not done herself justice with such name calling not as a person, not as a woman, and certainly not as a black. MarkT. Ballstaedt oriented atmosphere! Marvin MVe,i Majority opinion Editor: In response to Jane Kesler's "critical review" concerning "The Fifth Dimension," we would like to say that she lacks insight and appreciation for an entertaining and well per-formed music show which was obviously enjoyed by the majority of those present that night. Her ignorant comments make the reader wonder if she just lacks the knowledge necessary for a good critical review, or it she is just seeking attention. We extend to Miss Kesler our deepest sympathy because she , did not enjoy the show; but we are even more sorry that she saw fit to belittle a performance so well received by its audience. Joanne McDonald DorineCurrey And still more Editor: Phrllita Carney has reminded us that the persecuted minority is sometimes as intolerant as the vilified majority. The symbol and personification of "OutTeach"? Try reaching out to a clenched fist. Karl Haglund Homecoming Editor: Why is it that Homecoming is put down so much in the college- Over the hill Editor: It is ironic that Mr. Hill chose to quote Fred J. Cook to support his comments on McCarthy. Mr. Cook, during his notable career was tired tor lying while on Susskinds' TV show concerning his receiving bribes. He was ALSO praised by "People's World" and the "Daily Worker" for various articles he had written espousing their cause. A most impartial observer, Mr. Cook-with great integrity!
