Show AWACMUSI Arizona next Ute tilt Utah's still slim title hopes are on the line Saturday night when they tackle the Arizona Wildcats in the Cats lair at Tucson. Came time is 7:30 p.m. with the action being brought back to Salt Lake via KMOR radio. A win this weekend is a must if the Utes are going to stay in the title race. Injuries are the question mark for the Wildcats. Middle linebacker Mark Arneson who is reputed to be the best linebacker in this part of the country was injured early in the second quarter of the UCLA game. He suffered a sprained Achilles' tendon and is a doubtful performer. Without Arneson the Wildcat defense is weakened considerably. At the start of the season Arizona was picked to finish a strong third in the conference. So far their record is the same as Utah's 2-3. The Wildcats are only 1-1 in WAC play while Utah is 2-1. The Utes will go with about the same lineup as in previous games. Leo Cibby is still out and that will hurt some. Other than that the injury situation is on the plus side. According to the latest WAC stats the Utes have dropped some in all departments. They are now second as a team in passing offense behind Wyoming. Ute quarterback Scooter Longmire is second in total offense and passing offense behind Cary Fox of Wyoming. Cene Belczyk is fourth in rushing, averaging 5.9 yards per carry. Other Utes in the stats are Fred Craves second in pass receiving and Marv Bateman first in the conference and the country in punting averaging 49.2 yards per kick. If the Utes live up to their stats, the game should be a. good win for the Redskins now that they have discovered how. BW |
