Jake Rathwell joins "The Mod Squad" of the Eagles as Seattle and Phoenix invade the Salt Palace. Golden Eagles set for weekend tests The hockey season is half over, and with 13 wins under their belt, the Salt Lake Golden Eagles are only two victories away from the total number of games they won last season. These two wins could be picked up this weekend as the Eagles skate against Seattle and Phoenix on friendly ice in the Salt Palace. Wednesday night, the Golden Eagles lostto Portland, 6-0, on the road, but the games Friday and Saturday are in Salt Lake, and the Eagles always skate well before the home folks, having picked up 10 of their 13 wins in the palace. Totems shutout The Seattle Totems have visited Salt Lake twice and have failed to score against the Golden Eagles. With the series record tied at three games a apiece both teams will be out for blood. The Phoenix Roadrunners, who will be the Eagles' guests Saturday, Satur-day, are currently the hottest team in the Western Hockey League. The Roadrunners have won 13 out of their last 14 games i as they have made a surge for the I league lead. Salt Lake will be hampered by injuries to some key players. Goalie Rocky Farr will be out of action again. This time, though, he just has the flu and is still on the team. Guyle Fielder and Ted Hodgson have been sidelined, as has de-fenseman de-fenseman Paul Terbenche. Even with these injuries, the Golden Eagles can be expected to put on a good show both nights, and may even walk off with two victories. Mod Squad scores The Eagles continue to get balanced scoring from their three lines, even though just one line, "The Mod Squad" of Robertson, Rathwell and Kuntz, remains intact in-tact after key injuries to Guyle Fielder and Ted Hodgson. Barry Watson replaced Fielder when the veteran playmaker was sidelined with a knee injury and both he and Kassian blinked the light over the weekend. The "Mod Squad" produced three goals in the two games and Jerry Mazur's "Whirlwinds" "Whirl-winds" also connected three times, captain Bobby Ellett connecting con-necting for all three. Butch Dead-marsh Dead-marsh has replaced Ted Hodgson on the Mazur line, with Ellett moving to the right side. |
