Show Six outstanding Utes receive team awards Utah's Bleacher Utes sponsored a banquet for the football team in the Union Ballroom last Monday evening to honor the team as a whole and present awards to the outstanding individual performers on the team. Each Bleacher Ute acted as a foster father, hosting one or two of the players at the event which entertained nearly 400 people. Six awards were presented to I team members. The recipients of five of the awards were decided upon by team vote the week prior to the Brigham Young-Utah football foot-ball game. Those honored were Dale Nosworthy 'as the best offensive offen-sive lineman; Billy Hunter received recognition as the offensive back; Joe Petricca was awarded as the defensive lineman; Norm Thompson garnered the defensive de-fensive back award; and Dave Walker accepted credit as the most improved ball player on the team. Voted upon following tne Brigham Young game for most inspirational player was team co-captain co-captain Billy Hunter. Coach Meek mentioned that the Utes find themselves in a similar position this year as they were in last year at this time with the loss of several key members of the offensive unit. However, nearly all of the defensive squad which proved themselves so effective effec-tive towards the end of the season will be back. Last year the defense lost many star standouts while the offense retained nine of the 1 1 starters. "Although we're losing a number of our key players," commented com-mented Coach Meek, "we still have a strong nucleus from which to build a strong team for next year." |
