Show Thieves apprehended Over $1,000 in athletic equipment equip-ment has been stolen from the athletic equipment room in the HPR-East during the past few months. According to Sargeant Pete Rose, of campus security, a group of high school students conducted the break-ins over a three month period until they were arrested on April 3, by a police stake-out. The largest theft took placo on March 29 when four juveniles carried away over $900 worth of equipment including a key to the equipment room. After this break-in break-in a stake-out was placed at the equipment room and at 8:45 p.m. on April 3 eight juveniles returned re-turned to the equipment room and broke down a partition allowing al-lowing them to enter the equipment equip-ment room. Five of the eight were arrested by Sargeant Joe Farn-worth Farn-worth and the other three were arrested the next day. Sargeant Rose said that he did not release the information before because he was not sure he had caught all the youths involved. According to equipment room manager, Calvin Wooley, $450 worth of equipment was recovered after the arrest of the youths however several hundred dollars of equipment was still missing. The equipment stolen included football jerseys, tennis shoes and footballs. The most expensive individual in-dividual items stolen were basketball bas-ketball warm-up jackets which cost close to $35 a piece. Sargeant Rose said that he thinks more of the equipment will turn up as they continue to investigate in-vestigate the case. The juveniles were turned over to juvenile authorities. |
