Show Run on ticket The Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) would be adding a vice president ot its ranks under the new constitution coming up for a vote Wednesday. The office is an administrative position requiring implementation of the president's programs and policies. The vice president would also act as president in the absence of the president. The question arises, however, is it possible for the president and vice president to work together on projects if the two run on different platforms? Will the president feel his programs are secure with someone who might not share his same ideology? Will the vice president have contradicting programs of his own planned? It seems obvious that when two officers are to work together the provision should be made for the two to run on the same ticket. Though this change is not included in the new constitution it should be possible for the Elections Committee and the Executive Council to make arrangements for the "ticket" concept rather than allowing two individuals who will be working together to begin in completely different directions. Electing the vice president is better than appointing a vice chairman to act for the president from one of the boards as has been done in the past. Since he would act for the president and therefore for the entire school, it seems logical that he be elected and responsible to the studentbody in that capacity. Students, faculty, administration alumni as well as non-members of the University community are invited to write letters to the editor. Letters should not exceed five inches or 250 words, and, of course, will not be printed if libelous. If a person has a point of view that he feels cannot be explained in 250 words, he may make arrangements to write a column by contacting Nazir Khan in the Chronicle, Union 160, between 3 and 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. Columns are the opinions of the author and do not necessarily reflect the policy of the Chronicle, faculty, administration or studentbody. |
