Show Course Evaluation lists top 10 The 10 teachers rated highest by students in the fall quarter Course Evaluation were announced Wednesday. The teachers are, in alphabetical order: J.M. Call, music; David A. Kranes, English; N. M. Larsen. business education; M. E. McDonald, clothing and textiles; Thomas J. Parmely, physics; H. E. D. Redford, theatre; T. Shibutani, sociology; V. Douglas Show, art; P. C. Sturges, history, and S. E. Welch, musk. Choose Top 1 0 Ed Catmull, chairman of the Course Evaluation Committee, said the teachers getting the 10 highest ratings in some class they taught were chosen, providing there were at least 11 students in the class, and 75 per cent of those in the class returned their course evaluation cards. The course evaluation for fall quarter has been compiled and will be available in the bookstore next week to aid students in registering for spring quarter. Book Size Increases This year, the book will be 344 pages compared to 276 last year. 980 courses were evaluated this fall, compared with 602 last year. Cost of the book will be 50 cents. "Teachers were rated on preparation, ability to respond to questions, tests, and just generally what students thought of their profs," Catmull said. He added that there were 27 professors who had very high ratings and, "we just picked the top ten." 41,000, 81 per cent of the number issued cards, were returned fall quarter. Catmull said the committee was already working on the winter quarter evaluation cards. They will be sent out with spring registration material at the end of the week. "This quarter we've added a different card for evaluating seminar classes." |
