Show Track Meet The University of Utah track team will be the favorites in a triangular tri-angular meet Saturday afternoon in Logan when they meet Utah State and Wyoming. The Ute thinclads have turned in very good marks for this early in the season and four school records rec-ords have already been broken. Sal Mendoza shattered the mile run by several seconds and the mark now stands at 4:08.8. Mendoza will not compete Saturday because of a minor injury but will be back in action next week. Dwight Staten-added Staten-added nine inches to the school shot putt record which now stands at 53' 10". Hugh Voorhes and Jim Hawkins have both broken the 440 intermediate intermedi-ate hurdles record. Voorhees holds the record with a 53.1 clocking. Scott Bringhurst winds up the list of record breakers with a new 2 mile best time. Scott became the first man in Utah history to break nine minutes in the 2 mile with 8:55.8. In addition, several old records are in jeopardy and could fall Saturday with good track conditions. condi-tions. Ron Taylor's 47.6 clocking in the 440 is only .4 second off the record set in 1963. Frank Wojtech is only .7 second off Ron Zefferer's year-old half mile record. The mile relay team is only 1.4 seconds off the record and could break it on a good day. |
