Show Utes Cop Two From Mesa;l BYU Is Next Opponent The University of Utah baseball team, with Dick Hardy and Mark DiGiosio pitching brilliantly, swept a doubleheader from Mesa College over the weekend. Hardy pitched the entire first game, winning 8-3, and DiGiosio went all the way for a 6-2 victory in the second contest. The Utes pounded out 12 hits in the first game. Catcher Scott Mayne and outfielder Jim Whitely collected three each, and Mayne got the only extra base hit, a double. dou-ble. The Redskins continued their barrage in the second game as they got nine safeties, including a triple by catcher Frank King and doubles dou-bles by shortstop Jack Gehrke and first baseman George Theodore. Both King and Gehrke had two hits. Utah Is 6-5 These two wins boosted Utah's ' record to six wins and fire losses. The team batting avmss. . raised to .281, and the fielding aer-l age upped to .951. Outfielder Gary Cleverly Clever-ly (.297) and third baseman Tom Kilgore (.293) are other top Redskin Red-skin hitters. BYU Next April 12 will see the next competition com-petition for Utah when BYU comes to town for a 2 p.m. game. The following day the Utes will journey to Provo for a doubleheader with the Cougars starting at 1 p.m. BYU is the defending champions of the Northern Division of the WAC, and they reportedly have another strong team.
