Show YD's Explain Position Editor: The recent article concerning the Young Democrats committed a great error in quoting a nameless "Young Democrat spokesman" as saying the YD squabbling concerned concern-ed Presidential candidates. These people who are interested in forming a nationally recognized club are not dominated or controlled control-led by supporters of any particular candidate. Nor is their purpose to use the club as a forum to back any particular candidate. The sole purpose of reorganizing the Young Democrats with national or state sanctions is to make it a more viable and meaningful-organization, not a forum for anyone. John Sillito Editor: This letter is an attempt, to clear up a few misconceptions concerning concern-ing the fight in the College Democratic Demo-cratic Organization. (1) I am not a "Communist" as I have been referred to by the chairman chair-man of our Program Committee, Mr. George Milligan, nor am I a "hippie" as I have been referred to by National Committee Woman, Marilyn Hinkins. (2) The letter I signed criticising the foreign policy of President Johnson was not prepared by a "New Left" organization. It was f prepared by the President of the Young Democrats at the University Univer-sity of Wisconsin. (3) The College Democrats are v not now, have not been, and do not in the future intend to become an S anti-Johnson Club. The letter I signed states specifically, "this statement in no way is intended to reflect the viewpoint of the club I " am president of." There has been room for all opinions and views in the club. (4) The desire cf the club to remain re-main unchartered until April 16th, when an election will be held, was not the result of our desire to endorse en-dorse any candidate. It was rather a demonstration of our will that we will not be bullied by the State and National organizations. The State organization was not chartered char-tered until February and this club by National Rules can't get a charter char-ter after January. I was informed that as long as I remained president, presi-dent, the club would not be permitted per-mitted to charter. (5) This dispute was the result of a purge in which such cheap tactics tac-tics as closing membership were tried, in the tradition of a Joseph McCarthy or Attorney General Palmer, in which three members of the faculty who teach lessons in democracy openly participated.
