Show Bobby bird One of the unique birds native to North America is the cowbird. The distinctive characteristic of the cowbird is that rather than building a nest of its own, it simply moves into nests that other birds have built. The Chronicle has no objection to cow bird ethics in cow birds. But we are annoyed to sec that Bobby Kennedy can adapt himself to them so readily. This cowbird candi- . datv displayed his form about the time of the 1964 election. Finding himself estranged from the White House, Bobby started nest hunting. Voting in Massachusetts and living in Virginia, he decided he wanted to be a senator from New Yovi. It has been four years now since he pushed Kenneth Keating out of a nest, and what has Senator Kennedy done for i'ew York in the meantime? Not much. Like a child tired of a new toy, the novelty of the Senate has v-orn off, and Bobby is tired of it. Now, it seems, the naii- :i is obligated to give him something else to keep him occupied. The question nobody seems to be asking is this: Sir when is Bobby Kennedy the least bit qualified to be PnVcnt of the United States? Certainly his mawkish cul-tiv; cul-tiv; V n of the teeny bopper set and the JFK charisma are only esparate qualifications at best. lobby's horning in on McCarthy's hard-earned and w ' . spected campaign of dissent seems to us to be a cheap trie : Bobby says it's patriotism, but appearances say it's en opportunism. What good can accrue to the peace car ; ;.ign by splitting the vote? Perhaps Bobby asked what the d ; sent movement could do for him rather than-what he Co; ; i ; ;. do for the dissent movement. |
