Show Campus Elections 'Support Your Candidate' "The students should find their candidate and support him," stated Elections Chairman Laraine Isom, concerning the up-coming ASUU elections. This year elections will be shorter short-er and more controlled. Instead of the two month duration, elections will cover a month. "Elections begin be-gin March 25 and last until April 25," said Miss Isom. "We felt by containing elections within a month, it might not drag on like it has in crafts room and Chronicle advertising. adver-tising. "Students have only until this Friday to file for an office," she reminded. There is a filing fee ol $2 and an $18 deposit, which is refunded re-funded providing the candidate doesn't break any rules. The fees are to be paid to Jim Ward in the Union offices rather than Student Activities Center. "Although we have never had any problems with ethics in campaigns, cam-paigns, the committee will try to strictly control any violations." Primary elections are scheduled for April 17-18. Final elections will be held April 24-25. Students who have paid ASUU activity fees are eligible to vote, said Miss Isom. Associated Women Students officers will be voted on at a later date. Miss Isom noted, "People complain com-plain about the student government govern-ment not representing them. But, they don't do anything about it. What they should do is get a candidate candi-date from different areas to run. They should support candidates who represent their own organization." organiza-tion." She believes elections have only been popularity polls. If people took more notice of the candidates views, they would become aware of the real issues behind the elections, elec-tions, commnted Miss Isom. Candidates To Debate The Elections Committee has scheduled debates and discussions between the different candidates to publicly expose the election issues According to Miss Isom, the attendance at-tendance of these debates and discussions dis-cussions has been poor.
