Show Board of Regents To Meet Today The University's Board of Regents will take up the tuition hike controversy in its meeting today at 12:15 p.m., Union 304. The Regents who will meet for the first time since mid-October, mid-October, expects major decisions from its Monday meeting. Secretary Parry D. Sorenson told Chronicle reporters, the meeting will undoubtedly be significant. "I don't know exactly ex-actly what to expect," he said. This meeting signifies the first chance for the entire Board of Regents to act on the hike, although the executive committee com-mittee met last week. The planned tuition hike announced a few weeks ago, sparked student repercussions ranging from an ASUU-spon-sored march on the Capitol to an April Committee "Write Your Regent" campaign to an impromptu visit to the Governor's Gover-nor's Mansion by 25 University students. The projected increase came as the result of an across the board 4 per cent cutback of all state agencies ordered by Governor Gov-ernor Calvin L-. Rampton, according to a University Administration Admin-istration spokesman. A report from Chronicle Utah State University Uni-versity correspondent Suzanne Dean noted that that university's univers-ity's administration is attempting to avoid increasing by cutting cut-ting back existing programs. Board of Regents membership includes Reed W. Brinton, -W. W. Clyde, Richard L. Evans, Carvel Mattsson, Luke G. Pappas, Brian H. Stringham, Chairman Edward W. Clyde, George C. Hatch, Robert H. Hinckley, Vice President Donald Holbrook, Calvin W. Rawlings and Roy W. Simmons. Also, to be taken up in the meeting, will be appointments and campus planning. |
