Show Saturday, 1:30 p.m. At Provo Utah came back, and we're glad they did. BYU got shot down, and we predicted it. The stage is set for Saturday's game-Utah's spirit is up, BYU's is deflated. The Ute offense finally got rolling roll-ing behind Jack Gehrke as they scored 33 points against the second best defense in the conference, and the defense, anchored by Jerome Lawsons's two interceptions, was its usual good. BYU allowed Billy Stevens of the University of Texas at El Paso to run around until he could find receivers, re-ceivers, and he threw six touchdown touch-down passes. The Texans played it cool in the meantime by reddog-ging reddog-ging and dumping the Cougars for losses. The Provo club went down 47 to 14. This Saturday in Provo at 1:30 p.m. is the showdown. Utah has demonstrated its greatness with the Arizona comeback, and they are ready. BYU may have been looking ahead to the Utah game when they lost so badly. This is the big game of the year for the "Y"; they would rather win this one than any other contest. Each Cougar player has a sign in his locker from the beginning of the season that says "Beat Utah." Smiling Tommy Hudspeth is on a two game win streak against the Utes, and he really wants to make it three in a row. Watch his show tonight for further convincing. The point that Utah is up for the game doesn't need to be stressed. BYU's victory last year when Utah had a 5-1 record led to the Redskins Red-skins downfall and a 5-5 season. That shows how important the Cougar game was. An interesting sidelight to the game is that no Utah coach has ever lost to a BYU team twice. Mike Giddings lost to them last year. It's a cinch that the fans in Provo will be out in mass. They have al-loted al-loted us 1800 seats, and a few hundred are still left. It would be a pity if we couldn't fill 1800. Let's show Provo what real spirit is.! |
