Show Ute Harriers Second In Arizona Meet University of Utah crosscountry team again made a good showing over the weekend in a Quadrangular Quadrangu-lar Meet held in Tucson. Schools participating were Arizona, Ari-zona, Arizona State, New Mexico and Utah. Considering that the low score wins, Arizona came out cn top with 31, Utah was second with 46, and Arizona State was third with 49. New Mexico was declared ineligible because they used two people from Sweden who are conditioning con-ditioning for the upcoming Olym- Other finishers for Utah were Don Zaph, sixth place; Peter Meldrum, tenth place; Al Seeley, eleventh place; and Frank Wojtech, eighteenth eigh-teenth place. Utes are improving each week, and they are definite contenders for the WAC title on the Nov. 11. This Saturday they have their final meet before the conference final with Utah State in Logan. This will be the first meeting between the two schools this year. Heat was a big factor, because 94 degrees is not exactly what the Utes are accustomed to. The other three schools are in the South, so temperatures like that are common. But the WAC meet will be held in Laramie this year, and that will be more on the temperature of Salt Lake, giving Utes the advantage. Sophomore Scott Bringhurst, a product of Salt Lake and Highland, again excelled as he has the entire season. He finished first out of all the runners in the meet, and now looks like the conference's best. This was the second year in a row that Bringhurst has finished first in this meet Coach Pete Carlston has nothing but praise for Scott. |
