Show Poulton's Potshots Century of Donkeys By BOB POUITON Who thought we would ever see the day, but then anything is possible. pos-sible. Ears perk at the given stimulus, stim-ulus, hippy, red, Communist, new left etc. Pavlov's famous dog ' paved the way. Reaction has been dev-eloped and refined to such an extent that kicking defiance and self-righteousness are now amazingly amaz-ingly 98 predictable. Imagine a self righteous jackass. The secret of course lies in the programming which essentially consists of word reiteration and something about ideals, which are on the master block punched out as liberty, equality freedom for all men justice jus-tice and one nation under God. These words are those which have been programmed into the mechanization mech-anization of our now found beasts and they perdictably incite reactions reac-tions of pride, righteousness, and nice cars, and good jobs. The distinction dis-tinction between what Mr. Average Av-erage is, and what he does, and has is a very fine, almost nonexistent non-existent one. My analogy holds. Mr. America is a jackass. He reacts re-acts only to words. He has been assured of the truth, and he holds the rewards. He drops napalm and he pulls the trigger. He fights for right, and he does pray to his God, but he does not know He reacts to words, ideals, the button is pushed, and he does his duty. He knows nothing of his responsibility for his own existence, his dignity. He kills with impunity for the sake of words, which in the final analysis analy-sis mean nothing. Children's guts are spilled at the expense of his universals. He knows nothing, he does not think. His crutch is his master, and his masters his fate. He is a man, but he has not found the secret, he will not learn the lesson. His tick-tock heart swells, he pulls the trigger, but he is not a man as opposed to a jackass. a certain feeling of power. Another class of words, bad words are also punched out on the master program. pro-gram. They are red, anarchy, black, Lennin, Communist commie) com-mie) Mao, etc, and more recently V.C. We know that these 'are negative neg-ative stimulus words because when heard in unfavorable context con-text (programming is such as enables en-ables distinction between favorable favor-able and unfavorable context) technical point is still perhaps anger and kicking ensues. This technical point is still perhaps unclean. un-clean. An example will help. Positive Posi-tive reaction context consists of word combinations such as "Communists "Com-munists are all rat-finks." Negative Nega-tive reactions context consists of word combinations such as "Communists "Com-munists are people". The difficulties difficul-ties in achieving such a sophisticated sophisti-cated degree of stimulus-reaction differentiation must have been immense, im-mense, but, it has been done. Of course our donkey has it's rewards, and fine rewards they are. Everyone would like to have a comfortable place to live and a thirty year contract. My game is getting old. I'm not talking about donkey's at all. Heck, I'm talking about people. I mean people who have nice houses, new cars, pretty wives, cute children, and a good position with the company. I mean middle class Americans who almost are, one might say, new homes, |
