Show Ed Tells of 'Trip' By ED DITTERLINE Chronicle Business Manager With the determined emphasis on mind experiences and self-investigation, I have also taken a rather conservative "trip" with hypnosis. Aided by Mr. Loren Jacobsen of Theraputic Relaxation, Fran Collins, my public relations secretary, and I have decided to take a series of courses to improve concentration, induce relaxation, and investigate what really makes us 'tick' inside, while attempting to dispell many of the common misconceptions of hypnotism. In our first session, ses-sion, Fran and I d i s c o v ered we smell as he did Fran's. I immediately immediate-ly refused the suggestion when he told me he was holding a sweet liquid under my nose. It was actually ac-tually 28 medical ammonia, which burns the nose under normal circumstances. cir-cumstances. While Fran smelled the liquid (which in her case was labeled as perfume) she immediately immediate-ly accepted the suggestion without snapping out of the trance. I probably prob-ably rejected the suggestion because be-cause I cannot stand the smell of ammonia and I won't even let my mother use it in the house. Psychological Anesthesia Although Fran accepted the suggestion sug-gestion with the ammonia, Mr. Jacobsen was not able to remove her sense of feeling or to transfer this numbness to her cheek where she had once had dental anesthesia. Obviously the trances were not deep because it was our first time, but we did have experiences which one canot normally have under regular reg-ular thought. Self-hypnosis to Control Senses In the coming five weeks, Fran and I will find the proper way to induce concentration while studying study-ing under hypnosis. I will also be shown several techinques of self-hypnosis self-hypnosis to help me control bodily senses. It sounds fantastic. We will share our experiences during the coming weeks with you and come to a closer understanding ot fhe mystical experience of hypnosis. were not being hypnotized while Mr. Jacobsen proceeded pro-ceeded to remove Fran's sense of smell and my feeling in my and check.
