Show Editorial Humbugs ! The Editor and the undersigned of the Daily Utah Chronicle desire that the Publications Council and the Student Affairs Committee make a change in advertising policy concerning the Chronicle. Presently, the regulations prohibit the advertising of tobacco and alcoholic beverages in the paper. The undersigned contend that since the Council states that "the Council is inalterably opposed to precensorship. No student editor is obliged to secure prior approval of any material to be published. This fundamental funda-mental appreciation of free speech is to be encouraged by thinking men, and that the Council further says "no advertising ad-vertising matter for any publication that uses the University Uni-versity name as an endorsement may contain advertisements advertise-ments of tobacco, liquor, beer . . ." The two statements of the Publications Council clearly contradict each other and should therefore be corrected to read either it won't pre-censor the paper or it will leave advertising up to the Editor. The Daily Utah Chronicle further recognizes that the University will sell tobacco on the campus and allow it to be used thereon; therefore, can the University justify their policy of not advertising tobacco? Again, the undersigned under-signed note that we live in a capitalistic society, and that to limit enterprise on any level is, in effect, destroying the principles of this society. It must be pointed out to the University, as a tax supported institution, must either declare that there shall be no advertising of any nature in a University publication or that any advertising of any nature must be allowed since law will not allow a government organization to discriminate against taxpayers. To help further this cause the Chronicle solicits its readers for their opinions on this matter. Below one may check whether his opinions lead him to agree with the undersigned or with the University. Further comments may be attached.
