Show Corpsman To Speak On Campus Mr. Carl E. Bartch, Department of State foreign service officer, will discuss the organization's work Wednesday. He will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Union East Ballroom. "THE UNENDING Struggle," a film shot in Quito and Guayaquil, Guaya-quil, Ecuador depicting aspects of Foreign Service work in a developing country, will be shown. Following, Mr. Bartch will answer questions on Foreign For-eign Service Officer Corps careers, ca-reers, with specific reference to his own experience. Mr. Bartch has served in Cyprus, Venezuela, and Canada, and as Officer in Charge of Venezuelan Affairs in Department Depart-ment of State. In addition, he was First Secretary of the U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru, and is currently Officer in Charge of Argentine Affairs. THE OFFICER'S visit to the University is coordinated by the Institute of International Rela tions. Dr. S. G. Rich, professo; of political science and director of the Institute, said the next written examination for Foreign Service applicants will be held Dec. 4. Applications must be filed before Oct. 18. The same test is offered candidates candi-dates for both Foreign Service of the Department of State and USIA. Successful individuals on the written part will be tested orally before a panel of senior officers next spring. FOREIGN SERVICE Officers report and analyze political, economic, eco-nomic, consular affairs, administration, adminis-tration, and commercial work. Candidates should have background back-ground in economics, history, political science and government. |
