Show IFC Adopts Plan To End Hazing Probation Relief Seen By Group By R. D. WIILDE Chioolel Campus Editor The Interfratemity Council Wednesday passed a resolution calling for discontinuance of hazing haz-ing in pre - initiation activities among the fraternities of the University. The three-fold plan calls f on 1. Setting-tip a committee to control the activities of the individual indi-vidual fraternities for initiation. 2. ALLOWING initiations into fraternities only after written plans for pre-initiation have been submitted and passed by the committee formed in part one of the plan. 3. A workshop will be set up by IFC to suggest better ways to the fraternities for holding their pre-initiation activities. This plan was passed along with three other requirements given to five fraternities placed on social and business probation. The three requirements entailed en-tailed a letter from an alumni representative of what he saw while he was at the fraternity house; a time-table of the events that took place during the pre-initiation pre-initiation activities; and a physical phys-ical examination of the men from the five fraternities that had participated par-ticipated in these activities. EACH OF THE five fraternities fraterni-ties filled these requirements and each of the men going through the activities was ex- amined by a doctor. The doctor found no evidence of physical mistreatment to these nen and, furthermore, stated that at this early date it would j very easy to tell if they had been physically injured. WITH THE adoption of this P'an by IFC members felt that the University would withdraw e Probation placed on the five fraternities. The members of IFC also felt yat this recommendation would elp with any bad situation that may rise in connection with haz-m8 haz-m8 in the fraternities. THEY THOUGHT that the workshop provided for in the J'an would be a good experience or the fraternities in finding "7 ays for the pre-initiation activities. oni.06' aCtion' IFC held off "the formation of the commit- suggested by the proposal Ce'of816- use of the power that this mmittee held over fraternities m fraternity system. |
