Show Facilities Improving The Chronicle has done some complaining in the past about the sad state of the physical facilities on the campus. It's an example of the general phenomenon that it's a lot easier to be negative about the campus than to be positive about the constructive efforts being made to correct the situation. situ-ation. It might be apropos to take a look at some of the efforts ef-forts being made to improve the campus community. Just south of Orson Spencer Hall, crews are working on the first phase of the new College of Business. This phase will be completed in April and the second stage, which was recently begun will be finished in September. When the three-phase complex is completed, the College of Business will be able to boast of some of the most modern facilities in the West. Anyone who attended the University last winter ran remember how miserable a cold winter quarter can be. This year, substantial improvements in the heating system will make conditions more comfortable. A brand new heating plant now in the testing phase was recently completed and will be operational by the time cold weather sets in. This is not to say that our problem is solved; we're still a long way from that. But what is important is that positive efforts are being made to accommodate a rapidly growing number of students. It's not an easy job and it will take time; but credit should be given the administration, the planning and construction con-struction bureau and the other agencies working to provide a campus of which we can all be justly proud. |
