Show Core Confab Held Tonight The phenomenon of pupil-teacher interaction will be the theme of the Eleventh National Core Conference, Con-ference, Nov. 7, 8, and 9 at the University. The National Core Conference is an independent organization designed de-signed to further general education programs in the public schools. Questions to be discussed during the three-day meet include: classroom class-room climate; how a teacher determines deter-mines what to say, when to listen, what questions to ask and what information to give; the consequences conse-quences of "democratic" or "authoritarian" "autho-ritarian" classrooms; and new techniques tech-niques for developing higher mental men-tal processes. The conference is expected to attract over 150 educators from all parts of the United States. The keynote address will be delivered de-livered by Dr. Erven Brundage, assistant superintendent, San Diego County Schools, today at 7 p.m. in the Union Panorama Room. Dr. Earl W. Harmer Jr., associate professor of education at the University, Uni-versity, is chairman of the Eleventh National Core Conference. Dr. Harmer Har-mer explains that the word "core" refers to a block time program dealing deal-ing with an area of general education. educa-tion. The program is designed to help pupils study the subject matter in ways that will build more useful concepts, and foster intelligent decision de-cision making and an understanding understand-ing of democratic processes. Dr. Harmer said, "five per cent of the total secondary schools in the country coun-try now have core programs." |
