Show Jj j AROUND OUR 1 ipSmH - . ' Everyone in Beaver County seems happier since the snow fell last Friday. Before the snow fell I was able to make some heavy applications ap-plications of 24-D on some patches of noxious weeds in the county. 40 to 60 pounds of actual ac-tual 24. D were applied to Canada Can-ada thistle on the Owen Anderson Ander-son farm, south of Beaver, to Russian Knappener at Floyd Wright's in South, Milford, and to wild morning glory at Geo. Smith's in South Milford and Clark Smith's in Beaver. A patch of white top was treated at Mrs. Dotson's in Minersville, across from the dairy barn. This is a new method of weed control that looks promising. - Some fair to good results were JF obtained on some trials in the county last year. Speaking of the Minersville dairy barn, I stopped in there for a few minute.:-. James Eyre, manager, says they are milking about 460 cows now and sometimes some-times milk over 500 cows in this barn. Although there are getting to be quite a number of these cooperative barns in the state, Minersville's was the fin-t barn to be operated in the state and milks more cows than any of the others. Neal Davis was showing some of the artificially sired heifers in the barn an believe me there are some good ones-Use ones-Use of the fine sires available through artificial breeding certainly cer-tainly gives the dairyman a fine opportunity to improve his herd. Dale Eyre showed me a cow belonging to the Eyre Bros, that was producing 80 lbs of milk each day. If you want to see a large calf for his age drop in at Bill Wood's at Minersville. He has a cross between a brown Swin and Holstein that's two months 'old and looks like it was hai'x grown. See you around the Beaver County ani2, "GRANT ESPLIN. |
