Show In a Notable 'First' NAM GIVES SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD TO HOMETOWN PRESS In a aignal honor to the non-metropolitan press of the nation, the National Association of Manufacturers presented an "Award of Recognition" to the National Editorial Association, Associa-tion, representing that large segment of journalism, at the NAM's recent 61st Congress of American Industry, held in 'th4 Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The award, inscribed on a beautifully illumniated parchment parch-ment scroll, was presented to Alfred J. Ball, president or the NEA and publisher of the Lead-er-Obserfer, Woodhaven, N. Y, The award read as follows: "The National Association of Manufacturers, champion of the American competitive enterprise enter-prise system since 1895, proudly proud-ly presents this Award of Recognition Rec-ognition to the National Editorial Edi-torial Association for its active devotion, through the non-metropolitan non-metropolitan press, to the preservation pres-ervation of our country's basic freedoms." Referring to the presentation, Kenneth R. Miller, managing director of the NAM, recalled its long friendship wilh the nation's na-tion's hometown newspapers through its Industrial Press Service, now in its 23rd year of consecutive issuance of business bus-iness news and features especi- ally prepared for community and suburban weekly newspapers newspa-pers and their editorial inter-cat inter-cat in the economic affairs of America. "We cf the NAM have long recognized ihe importance of Ihe non-metropoliian press in the preservation of our country's coun-try's basic freedoms," Mr. Miller said, "and it is a particular par-ticular privilege and pleasure for me to sponsor this award on behalf of our membership. ....'We have every confidence that the hometown newspapers will continue to grow, not only in number and strength but also in their uniquely valuable contribution to an ever-greater America." Accepting the award on behalf be-half of the almost 6.000 non-metropolitan non-metropolitan newspapers which make up the National Editorial Association, Mr. Ball said: "We in turn are particularly pleased at the recognition accorded ac-corded our member newspapers by the National Association of Manufacturers a n d, through them, to the more than 25 million mil-lion readership they represent in the nation's communities and suburbs. "We feel that our newspapers, newspa-pers, published in the heart of America, reflect and will ever perpetuate all that is finest and strongest in our democratic way of life." |
