Show SCHOOL BOARD CALLS DISTRICT BOND ELECTION Asks $550,000 for Construction of New School Buildings Th Beaver County Board of Education this week announced a special bond election for Dec. 14, seeking permission of the taxpayers to issue $550,000 in Board of Kducation bonds to finance school building construction. con-struction. It was pointed out by members mem-bers of the Board of Education that the issuance of these bonds will not increase the tax levy, ;;ince they will be retired with revenues of the 10 mill levy added this year for building purposes. Building needs of the county as explained by Supt. D. R. Pearce, are: New elementary school at Milford, 10 to 12 classroom units, approximately $365,000; New cottage type school at Minersville, 175,000; New gymnasium and remodeling remod-eling of auditorium and gymnasium gym-nasium at Beaver High; five or 6 new units at Belknap elementary, ele-mentary, and remodel and modernize mod-ernize Milford High, approximately approxi-mately $600,000. This amounts to considerably consider-ably more than the $550,000 requested, re-quested, but represents the maximum bonding limit of the county, and mak,es the county eligible for state aid. Supt. Pearce also pointed out that under the present rate cf taxes for building purposes, it would take six years to accumulate accu-mulate sufficient funds to construct con-struct one building in the coun-1 coun-1 ty, and about 20 years to finance the buildings actually needed at the present time. |
