Show MRS. ED ANDERSON HEADS HEART FUND DRIVE Mrs. Eddie Anderson will serve as chairman of the 1956 Heart Fund campaign, to be conducted in Milford Feb. 1 through 29, Dr. Drew M. Petersen, Peter-sen, president of the Utah Heart Association, announced today. The local organization is affiliated with the American Heart Association. An appeal for funds will be made during the month to help reach the goal of $50,000 hoped for in Utah. "The diseases of the heart and circulatory system account for more deaths each year in the United States than all other causes combined," Dr. Petersen pointed out. "Because the Utah Heart Association is pledged to conquer this problem the Heart Fund Campaign unquestionably merits the support of every thinking citizen, "It is now an established fact that some of the heart diseases can be prevented, a few can be cured, and almost all cases can be helped by proper treatment especially after early diagnosis," diag-nosis," he continued, "This is the result of research research of the character that is supported support-ed by the heart fund." Seventy-five per cent of all contributions to the Heart Fund made in Utah are retained for the local program of community com-munity service, education, and research. The balance of these funds are used to support the nationwide research and education edu-cation programs of the American Amer-ican Heart Association. However, How-ever, Dr. Petersen pointed out, Utah has a unique position because be-cause of the great amount of heart research being conducted in the state, Following the 1955 Heart Fund approximately $11,000 was forwarded to the American Heart Association, but $25,500 was returned to the state in the form of American Heart research grants to local scientists. |
