Show GOV. J, BRACKEN LEE OPENS NEW I CLUB; SPEAKS ON ELECTION ISSUES j Gov. J. Bracken Lee, speak- ing in Milford at a public meeting meet-ing and at the opening of the American Legion Club last Friday Fri-day evening, expresed his views on controversial subjects which are being stressed in the present election campaign, including the two "major" issues, the lien law and the state school program. Gov. Lee arrived in Milford ' from Orderville about 6:30 p. m. ! and drove immediately to the L brary Park, where he ad- I dressed a large group. He was ! met at the airport by local Le- I gion representatives, and offi- cials of the city and county and ' the Republican party. A Legion I honor guard escorted him to town, and the Milford High School Marching Band led the parade down Main street. At the opening of the Legion Club, Gov. Lee enjoyed the banquet, ban-quet, and later in the evening met constituents and talked over their problems in a private office in the Beaver County Clinic. Dr. Eugene Davie offered the offices to Gov. Lee so the chief executive execu-tive could talk with his visitors in relaxed privacy, j The banquet was attended by more than 140 Beaver County residents and Legionnaires, and ; additional requests for admission had to be refused because of lack of seating space. Following the banquet, Jake Schow and his band played for dancing until a late hour. Gov. Lee pointed out in his talks that even though the highway high-way system of the state is far from adequate, and the roads in many sections are in poor shape, "they are much, much better than when I took office four years ago." He also stated that school teacher salaries are much higher than at any time in history, and there has been more construction of public buildings, including new school buildings, in the last four years than were constructed in the 20 years preceding his election. Many guests at the banquet, who had been present at a Lions Club banquet on Gov. Lee's last appearance in Milford when Lion Tamer Vance Fisher whacked off most of the governor's necktie, neck-tie, noted with amusement that Gov. Lee wore a neat bow tie for his appearance at this banquet. The Legion clubrooms, officially offici-ally opened Friday evening, presented pre-sented an attractive appearance, and drew many compliments from those present. To be operated oper-ated as a Legion locker club, with approved guests to be admitted ad-mitted upon admission, the club room has an attractive bar, a comfortable, and well-furnished ladies' lounge, and a large L-shape L-shape room for meetings and dancing. Jack Crahan, local Legion commander, is manager of the club, and will be assisted by Legionnaires who will be employed em-ployed during peak hours. |
