Show Once again American planes and ships and men are engaged in a shooting war. At press time Thursday, it wasn't an official of-ficial war, but the Yank airmen were shooting at Commie airmen air-men and tanks just the same. . After the first shock of realization real-ization was over, most Milford citizens were rather relieved, almost glad. For many months we have felt that war with Russia Rus-sia was inevitable it was only a matter of giving them enough time to build up their war machine ma-chine to the point they felt sufficiently suf-ficiently efficient to lick us And the man in the street, reading read-ing charges of State Department consorting with Commies, and the bickering back and forth between be-tween the two nations, knew the war was coming and fumed at the insolence of the Kremlin's representatives, at the same time nursing a faint hope that someway the whole thing could be smoothed out, and no more American blopd would be left to fertilize poppies on foreign land. Few Milford folks needed to be told that Russia was following follow-ing the Hitler pattern of minor aggressions and absorption of minor areas until the civilized people were pushed as far as they could be pushed. We have recognized the pattern, and we have wondered how much pushing push-ing Washington would take. When President Truman or-tdererL,tke or-tdererL,tke "fleet to protect For-ibsa, For-ibsa, ordered Gen. MacArthur So send aid to the civilized por- tion of Korea, he served notice on the Kremlin that the pushing push-ing was over. So far, all the Kremlin has publicly done is charge the U S with aggression. The United Nations has approved ap-proved the move of the' U S, but all the United Nations ever meant to Stalin was a place to publicly bargain while he was taking what he wanted behind the scenes a place to talk peace publicly while he prepared pre-pared for war privately. Stali(n may be moving Russian Rus-sian men and arms in to pull the North Korean Commies' fat out of 'the fire. If he is we will learn it the hard way when his jet planes and heavy tanks appear ap-pear in action. If he doesn't send aid to North Korea, it will mean only that he doesn't feel strong enough yet to cope with an aroused Uncle Sam. The next week should be a week of major importance to the future of the civilized world. |
