Show MILFORD DIVIDED INTO TWO WARDS AT REQUEST OF CHURCH OFFICIALS By Mrs. Harvey A. Dean At an inspiring and eventful meeting held in the Milford Ward Sunday evening, the ward was separated into two wards, with officers named for each ward, to take office Jan. 1st. Present at the meeting were Beaver Stake President A. Carlos Car-los Murdock, First Counselor Aird G. Merkley, and Counselor Mark Woolsey, of the Stake Presidency, and the following High Councilmen: Charles Jameson, Jam-eson, George Miller, Allan Reynolds, Ira Yardley, Frank Farnsworth, Milo Baker, Car-lyle Car-lyle Gronning, Walter Kirtsig". A large group of Milford Ward members were also in attendance.. at-tendance.. Bishop George C. Goodwin was in charge of the meeting, with President Murdock Mur-dock presiding. Following the opening exercises, exer-cises, President Murdock carried car-ried out the business of dividing the ward. He read a letter from President George Albert Smith, in which President Smith suggested sug-gested a division of the ward be made, and outlined the procedure. pro-cedure. President Murdock compared the ward to a family. A large family, he said, separates to form new associations, gain experiences ex-periences and development resulting re-sulting in a richer and fuller life for each member. So division divi-sion of the ward should stimulate stimu-late greater activity by giving opportunity for service to many instead of to only a few. The change automatically releases re-leases all officers of the ward, President Murdock said, but the new bishopric expressed a desire de-sire for all old officers to carry on until the first of the year. By that time they will have their organization completed. So, by January 1 a new set of officers will take over new responsibilities responsibil-ities in various capacities. The First Ward was designated designat-ed -by President Murdock to take in that portion of the city north of Third Avenue and north of the large water tank on the hill, to be presided over by Clarence E. Tuttle as bishop, Karl Stott, first counselor, and Oren J. Loveland, second counselor. coun-selor. The Second Ward will comprise com-prise all the area south of Third Avenue and the water tank. South Milford is included in this ward. Carlyle Gronning was named bishop; Gael Elmer, first counselor, and Joe C. Smith, second counselor. George C. Goodwin, released as bishop, was sustained as a member of the Beaver Stake High Council. Bishop Goodwin and his counselors, McCoy Williams Wil-liams and David C. Watkins, received re-ceived praise for the efforts and services rendered while presiding over so large a ward., |
