The portion of the crops raised which is needed was to be given to the needy, the remainder sold, and profits placed in the Milford Mil-ford Ward funds. Crops planted in 1948 netted larger profits than those harvested har-vested this year. 35 acres of grain were planted, the balance being planted to potatoes and green vegetables. 150 bushels of grain were stored in the Beaver Welfare storehouse and distributed to the needy. At one time, while the ground was being prepared for planting, 18 tractors and 40 men were working on the 40-acre tract. This year, potatoes, hay and some grain and corn were planted. plant-ed. About 1000 bales of hay have been sold, but the potatoes are being held for later sale, as the market is "dawn" at this time. It is planned to offer the potatoes to Milford area families during the winter. |
