H i uf -A J? x ,y vj Robert Rounseville BROADWAY STARS HEAD U OF U CAST Two well-known American singing stars, Kitty Carlisle and Robert Rounseville, have been signed to sing feature roles, in the. University of Utah's Summer Festival, July 4th to 19th. They will star in productions of "The Great Waltz," featuring the music mu-sic of Johann Strauss and the English language version of Bizet's Bi-zet's "Carmen." Miss Carlisle has starred in both Broadway and Hollywood productions. She first starred in the title -role of "Rio Rita," which ran for 35 weeks on Broadway and on the road. In Hollywood she played opposite Bing Crosby in several of his films, and with the Marx brothers. broth-ers. Recently Miss Carlisle has. begun to sing operatic roles and has her sight set on the Metropolitan Metro-politan Opera next season. In private life- she is the wife of Moss Hart, well-known American Amer-ican playwright. Mr. Rounseville has been hailed by critics as the operatic "find" of the season. He was the subject of a feature article in Time magazine last month after starring in Affenbach's "Tales of - Hoffman," produced by the New York City Opera Company. "The Great Waltz" will be presented in the University of Utah Stadium Bowl July 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11. "Carmen" will follow on July 15, 16, 18 and 19. Director of the productions produc-tions will be Dr. C. Lowell Lees, bead of the University of Utah speech department, who directed direct-ed the centennial production of "Promised Valley," and "Show Boat" and "Midsummer Night's Dream." |
