Show DR. FOWLER LISTS CAUTION MEASURES TO FOIL POLIO Bonnie Bradshaw, 6, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bradshaw, was admitted to the Salt Lake General Hospital Monday, suffering suf-fering from infantile paralysis. She was reported in "fair" condition con-dition Thursday morning. Bonnie became ill on May 24. When she lost the use of her right arm Monday, she was rushed to Salt Lake for treatment treat-ment in the polio ward of the hospital. Thursday evening, Dr. Herbert B. Fowler, Beaver county health officer for the western district, met with the city council to urge spraying of the entire city as a precautionary measure. He emphasized that there was no cause for undue alarm or panic, but in view of the spread of polio in other localities, every precaution precau-tion should be taken and flies, a known carrier of the virus, should be fought unceasingly. Dr. Fowler pointed out that after one or two years, the ordinary ordi-nary DDT is not wholly effective effec-tive against flies, and a new mixing mix-ing solution, containing an acid base, must be used. The city today ordered a barrel of concentrated con-centrated solution, to spray all alleys, the dump, and an area of one mile around the city. Residents Res-idents were urged by Dr. Fowler to spray their garbage cans and the cracks and crannies under the eaves, etc., about their homes, in a vigorous campaign to rid the city of flies. Also, the health officer warned, all fresh fruits and vegetables should be thoroughly washed, in ordinary soap and water, and thoroughly rinsed with clear water, before eating. |
