Show Of Interest to Women LITTLE MISS JEAN Norton celebrated her sixth birth anniversary anni-versary February 16th, which called for a party at her home. The following little friends wished Jean a happy birthday and gave her lovely presents: Leon and Marsha Smith, Bonnie Bradshaw, Sherie Lish, Brad Weston, Sheron Nichols, Linda Johnson, Lar.ry Hollingshead, Sue Ann Thompson, Dale Gil-lins Gil-lins and Martha Robinson, Games were played, and root beer, birthday cake and jello f were served during the after noon. A VERY ENJOYABLE evening eve-ning was spent at the home of Mrs. Lucille White last Friday evening by Mrs. Lillian Atkin, Mrs. Neva Kinross, Mrs. Ruby Ashworth, Mrs. Zella Whiteside, Mrs. Melba White and Mrs. Ella Edwards. ' . After an evening of social, J Mrs. White served at midnight a two-course luncheon. A VERY TASTY salad course was served by Mrs. Maudell Crane last Thursday night for Mrs. Dorothy Morris, Mrs. Mabel Westergard, Mrs. Toni Uffens, Mrs. Alverta Goodwin, Mrs. Phyllis Keetch, Mrs. Hazel Hill-man Hill-man and Mrs. Jean Hanley. Bridge was played after the luncheon, with Mrs. Hanley, Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Goodwin receiving receiv-ing the prizes. A VERY SPECIAL luncheon was served by Mrs. Elnore Mur-dock Mur-dock at her home last Thursday evening to members of her club. After the luncheon, Monte Carlo Whist was enjoyed by Bobbie Henkel, Lois Hollis, Patsy Stewart, Claudia Peterson, Anna Mae Hickman, Lena Rae Rogers, Roma Parkinson and Dora Gustavson. Prizes were received by Lena Rae, Claudia and Patsy. A MOST DELICIOUS lemon chiffon pie and coffee were prepared pre-pared and served by Mrs. Anna Cochrane last . Monday evening at her home, to members of her club. Afterwards a delightful evening of bridge was enjoyed by Mrs. Naomi Hughes, Mrs. Ethel Nielsen, Mrs. Mary Williams, Wil-liams, Mrs. Emma Smith, Mrs. Harriet Hutchings, Mrs. Mildred Haynie and Mrs. Lemma Boucher. Bouch-er. Mrs. Hutchings received ' high point prize, Mrs. Boucher, honors, Mrs. Williams the club prtee and Mrs. Hughes, consolation. consola-tion. BRIDGE was the evening's entertainment at the home of Ina Norton, Thursday evening. The ladies who received prizes were Norma Yount, Nelda Mem-mott Mem-mott and Faye Berger. Other players were Wilma Weston, Fern Tanner, Phylis Workman, Lillian Mellor and the hostess. A tasty luncheon was served at a late hour. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Susan McCulley and Sherrie Gillins, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wal-ter A. McCulley and Mr. and Mrs. Reed Gillins. Both little girls will be seven years old Saturday, February 26th. A birthday party will be given in their honor Friday afternoon at the school. LORA BRADFIELD had as her guests Monday evening The Big Four bridge club. Mrs. Wanda Holm, Mrs. Garnet Garfield, Gar-field, Mrs. Louise Delgardo, Mrs. Kate Shingleton, Mrs. Flora Cuddy, Mrs. Eva Banks and Mrs. Lois Moore were present. Bridge was played during the evening, with prizes going to Mrs. Shingleton, Mrs. Delgardo and Mrs. Moore. Cherry pie a i la mode was served by the hostess. A CLEVERLY arranged dinner din-ner was planned for the Lady Lions last Friday evening at the Catholic church by Mrs. Gwen Smith and Mrsi Emma Smith. At the dinner table the centerpiece center-piece represented a cherry tree and clever hand made axes were the placecards. Mrs. Billie Stoker presented three new members, Mrs. Mildred Mil-dred Haynie, Mrs. Francis Murphy Mur-phy and Mrs. Ina Norton. Two guests of the evening were Mrs. Maude Armstrong and Mrs. Ver-netta Ver-netta Rigby. After the chicken dinner, Monte Carlo Whist was played. Mrs. Allene Jefferson, Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Armstrong were delighted with the lovely gifts they received as prizes. AN IMPRESSIVE bridge club party was that of Mrs. Stella Persons, when she entertained at her home last Friday evening. Two birth anniversaries were observed, honoring Mrs. Hazel Baxter and Mrs. Garnetta Hollis. Hol-lis. Other ladies present included includ-ed Mrs. Flossie Rickerson, Mrs. Theresa Pitchforth, Mrs. Verna Tomsik, Mrs. Lena Morris and Mrs. Helen Leech. Mrs. Leech and Mrs. Tomsik were invited guests. At bridge, Mrs. Baxter, Mrs. Hollis, Mrs. Leech and Mrs. Rickerson received the prizes. Birthday cake and ice cream w ere served to the guests during the evening. P.-T. A. FOUNDERS DAY OBSERVED IN FEBRUARY The Parents and Teachers Association As-sociation was founded on February Febru-ary 17, 1897. It was founded on the idea and the great efforts of Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst. It was their dream to have a National Congress of Mothers, whose growth would quickly become international. To have a nation's na-tion's council where the mothers moth-ers of America could come to legislate their mother-concern into action. In the annals of the Congress these two women stand as the beloved co-founders. They were of a single mind in their interest in children and in human welfare. On February 17, 1897, the National Congress of Mothers met in Washington to plan and fulfill the needs of children, and meeting those needs. They were the pioneers who sought successfully success-fully to unify parents, educators, educat-ors, scientists and philanthropists philanthro-pists in behalf of children. It was their vision that has now developed an organization of 5V2 million people working in common purpose for the highest goals of child welfare. With each passing year we are very grateful for the idea and the untiring efforts of these |
