Show LKGION AUXILIARY HAS INTERESTING MEETING The American Legion Auxiliary met at the home of Mrs. Ardith Outzen last Monday evening. The early part of the evening was taken up with business, including discussion of the National Essay Contest, an annual activity of the Legion Auxiliary. Subject for this year will be "America's Contribution Contribu-tion to a Permanent Peace." Mrs. Erma Cline, Mrs. Nina Bingham and Mrs. Ruth McWhorter was named to a committee to make arrangements ar-rangements for this year's contest. Prizes awarded by the local auxiliary auxil-iary will be $5:00 and a medal, first prize, and $5.00, second prize. Mrs. Jennie Bowen, who leaves soon for Kanosh to make her home, was honored during the social portion por-tion of the evening. Mrs. Bowen is a. charter member of the Mil-ford Mil-ford Auxiliary, which was organized organ-ized by 11 women, l5 years ago. Mrs. Naomi Hughes will be the only remaining charter member after Mrs. Bowen's departure. Monte Carlo Whist was played, with Mrs. Erma Cline winning high prize, Mrs. Ruth Leany, consolation, consola-tion, and Mrs. Marie Johnson, house prize. A dessert course was served by the co-hostesses, Mrs. Outzen and Mrs. Magdalena White, after which Mrs. Bowen opened vher many dainty hankies, presented her by Mrs. Mary Williams, Mrs. Ruth Leany, Mrs. Jessie Frazier, Mrs. Ethel Smith, Mrs. Patricia Williams, Wil-liams, Mrs. Carlie Waddoups, Mrs.i White, Mrs. Beryl Crum, Mrs. Dora , Smithson, Mrs. Erma Cline, Mrs. j Metta Weston, Mrs. Letha Smythe, 1 Mrs. Naomi Hughes, Mrs. Nina Bingham, Mrs. Anna May Hickman, Hick-man, Mrs. Dorothy Grimshaw, Mrs. I Jesse McKnight, Mrs. Hazel Bax-j ter, Mrs. Gale Perkins, Mrs. Marie Johnson, Mrs. Olive Root, Mrs. ! Harriet Hutchings and a special guest, Mrs. Clarence Goins. Gifts also were sent by four members mem-bers who were unable to be present, pres-ent, Mrs. Ruth McWhorter, Mrs. Emma Smith, Mrs. Irene Carter and Mrs. Ethel Nielsen. |
