Show Under new coach Devil cagers prepare for season 29 as Springville and Payson will each be hosting a double header Friday night at Sprimr-ville Sprimr-ville and Saturday night at Payson as follows: Friday, Payson vs Layton at Spring ville, 7 p.m.; Springville vs F.oy. 8:30 p.m. Saturday they will switch to Payson where Springville Spring-ville plays Layton in the 7 o'clock contest and Payson meets Wasatch at 8:30. Head basketball coach Elliott Jordan, who will be coaching his first year at the Red Devil school, has selected his players for the varsity squad and has been holding nightly workouts. The Red Devils will again be a comparatively small quintet, but Coach Jordan is anticipating anticipat-ing a club with much fight and hustle and speed. The club will not be strong in returning lettermen since there are actually ac-tually only three returning. Two others, one being Lynn Allan, who was injured in football, foot-ball, will not be playing. Mike Marshall and Everett Holdaway will co-captain the squad and along with Tom Cherrington, will form the nu-cleous nu-cleous for this year's starting five. All are seniors. Adding to the senior list will be Duane Paxton, John Preston and Chris Sorensen. One of the more capable players, Sam Giles, will likely be used in the starting five. Giles is a junior. Scott Smith, Ron Hitchcock, Wilford Clyde, Mat Bushman, Kelly Tuttle and Jeff Preston are other juniors on the squad. The team is progressing nicely nice-ly thus far and hopes for a successful season on the hardwoods hard-woods is being made by the new mentor. First pre-season games have been lined up November 28 and |
