Show Springville entry in contest announced Springville will enter the state and national civic improvement im-provement program contest in which a number of prizes are awarded including the grand prize of $10,000 offered offer-ed by Sears Foundation. The decision was an outgrowth out-growth of a meeting at the home of Mrs. Roy Johnson last Thursday evening in which all city council members mem-bers attended, police chief, members of the Spring illc Garden Club, Beautification Committee and Shade Tree Commission, Youth Council, the Chamber of Commerce, PTA, churches, and federated feder-ated women's clubs, were all represented. The contest is sponsored through the Utah-Federation Utah-Federation of Womens Clubs of which Mrs. Wendell Winger is currently serving as president. The local womens wo-mens council president. Mrs. Louise Clyde and past president, presi-dent, Mrs. Marie Johnson, are directing the Springville efforts. Following the Thursday meeting the representatives were also in attendance at the BYU in conjunction with other clubs of the county and representatives from the University of Utah. The Springville group was cited with the largest number in attendance and won recognition recog-nition for the most interest in the community event and certificates were presented each member of the local group attending. A scrap book entry is required re-quired in the contest and must show the accomplishments accomplish-ments of the entire community. com-munity. This scrapbook must be entered by March 1 and will be judged on a state and then national basis. The state judging will be held in connection with the state Federated Women's Clubs Convention which is scheduled sched-uled to be held at Springville Spring-ville Museum of Art April 30, May 1 and 2 this coming year. The state winner scrapbook will then go to the national finals and the winner will be announced in June at the national meet in Texas. In charge of the scrap book here will be Marie Johnson with Mrs. Clyde in charge of the overall contest. con-test. They will seek the assistance as-sistance of two professors of the University of Utah in making up the book. The two officers feel that a good start has been made and Springville's chances of winning win-ning appear favorable. |
