Show BYU wins 22-20 thriller; goes to Iowa Saturday Football at Brigham Young University is a game in which the Cougars use 11 players and five toes on the right foot of Joe Liljenquist. It certainly seemed that way Monday morning after the Cougars had posted a win in their opener against Colorado State. But it may take more than a hypoed group of players and Joe the Toe to get BYU over Iowa State this weekend. The Cougars and Cyclones will meet in football for only the second time Saturday afternoon after-noon in Ames. Although the Cougars were getting a tremendous boost out of winning the opener, they will be underdogs in the game with Iowa State. They Cyclones looked too good in losing a 14-13 14-13 decision to Syracuse, the number-two team in the East, not to warrant a big edge once they return to Clyde Williams Field. For the moment, however, the Cougars can afford to enjoy en-joy some of the sparkle that followed the dramatic win over Colorado State. What appeared to be sure-defeat sure-defeat was turned into victory Saturday night when sophomore sopho-more Joe Liljepquist kicked a 17-yard field goal (his fifth of the evening) to give BYU a 22-20 win with 15 seconds of playing time on the clock. Summer is that season of the year when a housewife can put anything on a lettuce leaf and call it a special salad. |
