Show New programs, projects begun in Nebo with approval of board A number of locally-interesting items taken from the Nebo School Board minutes and which had not previously been publicised included a new picture pic-ture program to be sponsored through the PTA organization of the district and presented by Mrs. Kenneth Pinegar and Mrs. Wayne Christensen of Spanish Fork. The prooposed program was actually a picture program of the National Schools Company that would furnish nine small pictures, one class picture with individual pictures, one group class picture, and one large single picture all for a three dollar charge per set. Mrs. Pinegar Pin-egar reported that the local photographer had agreed to furnish this same package for perintendent Reidhead pointed out that- many calls and telegrams tele-grams have been made to Utah's Congressional Delegates in attempt to have the fine waived. Letters were read from Utah's Congressional Delegates showing real concern for this problem, but they had been unable un-able to have the fine waived. Motion: Di. William H. Sor-ensen, Sor-ensen, seconded Glenn W. Coff-man Coff-man that the claim against the Nebo School District in the amount of fourteen hundred dollars incurred with the usage of the D7 tractor be paid and that this claim be settled. Voting Vo-ting unanimous. President Whiting discussed with the board the subject of ftalary for the Clerk-Treasurer for the school year 1969-70. Motion: Dr. William H. Sor-ensen Sor-ensen seconded Glenn W. Coff-man Coff-man that the salary for the Clerk-Treasurer be set effective effec-tive July 1, 1969 to June 30, 1970. Voting unanimous. the same price as being offered by the National Schools Company. Com-pany. It was Superintendent Reidhead's r e c o m m e ndation that the PTA organization and the principal of each individual school make a decision as to whether to accept this program individually by schools. After much discussion the Board authorized au-thorized the program to proceed pro-ceed and that the Springville and the Payson PTA Organizations Organiza-tions be notified of this project pro-ject and that they were to work with each school principal to promote the school picture program in the individual schools of Nebo School District. Supt. Reidhead reported to the Board on a new media project pro-ject being conducted at the Brookside School in Springville. He reported that this school is to be saturated with media consisting con-sisting of film strips, slides, projectors, books, and all types of instructional media. This program would then be compared compar-ed with other schools in the Nebo School District that did not have this saturation of media me-dia materials. It was hoped that by making this study it would prove, (1) That a child should be able to achieve more readily with this type of materials ma-terials available, and (2) this would improve the individualized individual-ized instruction approach to the learning process. Superintendent Reidhead read a letter from Ashworth Architect Archi-tect wherein he pointed out an error that had been made by Sanford Paint, wha was a subcontractor sub-contractor to Vincent Construction, Construc-tion, covering the painting of the Mapleton Elementary Addition. Ad-dition. Mr. Ashworth had reported re-ported that he had investigated this error and found it to be a legitimate omission on the part of Mr. Sanford and requested the Board to add an additional $997.00 to Vincent Construction contract to offset this error on the part of Mr. Sanford on his bid to Vincent Construction Co. Motion: Dr. J. Robert Hogan seconded Glenn W. Coffman that the status of this request be held until the end of the building project, when, at such time this request would be re-iewed. re-iewed. Voting unanimous. Supt. Reidhead reviewed with the board the developments that had occured regarding the D7 tractor obtained from the Utah Surplus Agency. Nebo School District attempted to cooperate with Payson City and had allowed them to use the D7 tractor in trade for work done by the city. The Surplus Agency had indicated that this practice was not permissable, and had placed a 51,400.00 fine upon Nebo School District. Su- |
