Show i Kendel Winkel Mapleton couple reports injury of son in war Kendel Winkel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton G. Winkel, 333 West Maple in Mapleton, and who was to have finished his tour of duty in Vietnam just one day prior to being wounded there in late August, is presently present-ly in a Guam Hospital. He was wounded in action, receiving a severe shrapnel wound in his leg. He is now in intensive care in the Guam Hospital and has contacted malaria ma-laria and n. severe infection in his leg. He will be unable to be returned to the states until he is able to travel. Mi. Winkel, 25, had served in Vietnam 13 months at the time he was wounded and was schedulec'. to return home the day after he was hit. He is a battalion ammunition technician techni-cian in the Marine Corps and had been stationed near the DMZ line most of his tour of duty in Vietnam. As a graduate of Vail High School in Oregon, Mr. Winkel received his basic training at Camp Pendleton prior to going to Vietnam in July of 1968. He has also attended Ricks College Col-lege in Rexburg, Idaho. |
