Show Tests scheduled for kindergarten j children to discover tuberculosis determine if active tuberculosis ! is present, and the person should be treated for the di- t sease, or of preventive treat- ment is necessary. !,! The school tuberculin skin testing program in Springville will be conducted October 2 and 4 at the schools, beginning at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., it was announced by the City-County Health Department. All kindergarten kinder-garten students and teaching personnel are eligible to receive the test which will be free of charge. Request forms have been sent home with each eligible child, and the health department depart-ment announced that no child will receive the test unless parents par-ents sign the form and return it to the schools. The tuberculin test is a simple sim-ple skin test that indicates whether tuberculosis germs are present in the body. A small amount of material is injected under the outer layer of skin. Within 48-72 hours later the test will be read by qualified persons. Aim of the program is to get 100 per cent participation participa-tion from those eligible for the test. If only 80 or 90 per cent of the eligible children are tested, test-ed, someone may be missed with a positive reaction who could be helped. The program is being planned plan-ned and conducted by the Nebo School District in conjunction with the City-County Health Department. The Utah Tuber-culuosis Tuber-culuosis and Health Association is cooperating in the program. Ideal age Kindergarten students are being tested because this is an ideal time to treat a child, before be-fore he has a chance to spread the disease, and before he increases in-creases his contact with the "outside world." School personnel are tested because of their close association associa-tion with children. Children who have a positive reaction to the test, don't generally gen-erally have active tuberculosis. But by identifying these youngsters, they can be kept from developing into active disease di-sease through the use of preventive pre-ventive drug treatment, and the source of the infection can often be easily traced.
