The Laguna Beach Festival has grown from a small art show during the depression days to an event of international interna-tional acclaim. It has now grown to ten acres of exhibits and attractions and maintains a traditional charm and unique cultural atmosphere. The Festival of Arts and the Pageant of the Masters has been extended this season over six weeks from July 7 through August 19. It will feature more than 200 exhibitions including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, photoghaphy and other crafts. Many of the exhibitors work in their booths so that visitors may watch and learn something of the method employed by them and may ask questions of the artists. Visiting children greatly en- joy expressing memseives in the "Free for all," art classes that are professionally supervised. super-vised. Selected works from Orange County kindergarten through high school are displayed dis-played in the Anna Mary Bock Junior Art Gallery. Puppet shows are staged several sev-eral times daily to delight the young visitors. The Festival Snak Shop is open from noon until midnight seven days a week. The Candle-Light Terrace Ter-race Restaurant with its Gourmet dinner is open evenings eve-nings for outdoor dining. The Pageant of the Masters, a highlight of the Festival of Arts, has won world-wide fame through its 32 years for the dedicated volunteer men, women wo-men and children of Laguna Beach. Beginning at 8:30 each evening, the two-hour outdoor performance is sheer magic under un-der the stars. From the 2,500 seat natural amphitheatre the audience sees re-creations of great paintings and classic sculpture with living liv-ing models, costumed and posed exactly as the Masters conceived con-ceived them. Accompanied by descriptive narration and appropriate ap-propriate music, the brief look through the eyes of great artists ar-tists is a never to be forgotten spectacle. "The Last Supper" by Leonardo Leo-nardo da Vinci, with the music of "The Lord's Prayer" by Albert Al-bert Hay Malotte, brings each performance to a reverent close a traditional climax since the very first Pageant of the Masters. All these things and even more await some lucky individual individ-ual who joins the Springville Fine Arts Association within the next few days. An enthusiastic art membership member-ship committee com prising Jack Allen, W. L. Snelson, Harrison Har-rison Conover, Kenneth Met-calf, Met-calf, Hugh Gerdner and W. W. Clyde, president of the Art Association have pledged themselves them-selves to attain the quota and expect full cooperation from townspeople. |
