Show Game heads set new bag limits, opening date for fish season Utah's five man Fish and Game Commission met in Salt Lake City last week and the major item of business conducted con-ducted was the approval of the 1967 angling, seining and bait dealers proclamation. June 3, 1967 has been circled as the opening day of the season sea-son for Utah anglers. The general gen-eral season will close on November No-vember 30, 1967. Several changes were made in the bag limits for the upcoming up-coming season. The limits on trout and salmon were changed and the limit on channel catfish cat-fish in Utah Lake was reduced from 25 to 15 fish. Next year there will be no weight limits on any species of fish in Utah except Bear Lake. Gone will be the weight limits on trout and salmon, the last species to have a weight limit. Eight fish will be the limit on trout and salmon in 1967. No more than two of these may be lake trout. There will be four exceptions to this bag limit. The first two are Lake Powell where the limit lim-it on trout will be 10, and Bear Lake where limits will be the same as 1966. The third is in Daggett, Duchesne, Du-chesne, Summit, Wasatch, and Uintah Counties, where the an-ler an-ler can take up to 14 fish in some waters, but not more than 8 of these 14 fish can be rainbows. Those waters where the angler can take more than the normal bag of 8 fish are generally the more inaccessible high lakes in the Uinta Mountains. Moun-tains. This is to encourage people peo-ple into these areas where fishermen are needed. The fourth exception is Strawberry Reservoir where the 1967 bag limit will be six fish regardless of weight. A portion of the Strawberry River Riv-er will again be a quality trout stream, with the same rules as last year. Next year's bag limits will be a marked change from the previous season and will need the attention of all fishermen so they do not find themselves in a spot with an officer of the Fish and Game Department. Depart-ment. Complete proclamations will be available prior to the first of Jan., when new regulations go into effect. |
