Show Mrs. Mary N. Thorn, who j will observe her 80th birth-I birth-I day, Saturday, September 18. Mrs. Mary Thorn J to observe : 80th birthday Mrs. Mary N. Thorn, will ob-1 ob-1 serve her 80th birthday Satur-! Satur-! day, September 18, at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Cleon Craig, 66 North 1st East. Friends and relatives are invited to call on her at the time. 1 Mrs. Thorn was born in Spanish Fork and spent her life in that community. In 1905 she was married to Alfred Newton (Newt) Thorn and they made their home in Eureka, Eu-reka, Springville, Park City and Spring- Canyon before returning re-turning to Springville to make a permanent home in 1946. She took an active part In church work during her earlier life and served in the various auxiliary organizations. She also al-so did much fine hand work and was noted for her good cooking. Her husband died in 1955 and she has made her home with her daughter most of the time since. There are five sons and daughters: Mrs. G. H. (Myrtle) (Myr-tle) McNeill, Max Thorn and Mrs. Cleon (Elaine) Craig of Springville; Mrs. C. J. (Rea) Wilcox of iSalt Lake City; and Hall Thorn of Moab; also 24 grandchildren and 63 great grandchildren. Mrs. Thorn has three sisters: Mrs. Hilda Bingham, Bing-ham, Spanish Fork; Mrs. Emma Em-ma Thomas, Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Ruby Worthen in California. Before pipes were available public water systems utilized whole trees which were hollowed hol-lowed out and placed end-to-end for the main lines. For connections, or outlets, smaller trees were used. These were used for many years in towns and villages. |
