Show Middleweight title at stake in August fight The American Middleweight Championship will be at stake Thursday, August 19 at 8:30 when Emile Griffith meets Don Fullmer at the Utah State Fairgrounds grandstand. The fight has been sanctioned by the Utah State Athletic Commission Com-mission and the World Boxing Association. Fullmer, a native of West Jordan and a brother to Gene, has been fighting since he was five years old. He fought as an amateur for 13 years and turned pro at 18. He has fought in various states and four times he has traveled to Europe. He is now 26 years old, stands five feet nine inches in-ches tall and weighs 160 pounds. Emile Griffith is the only fighter in the history of boxing box-ing to win the world welterweight welter-weight title three times. He is 26 years old, a native of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. He is a New York World Welter Wel-ter and Junior Middleweight champion. He is the 1958 New York and Inter-City 147 pound Golden Glove champion also. Of 51 fights he has won 45. |
