Show Young men 16-21 may apply for Job Corps work Applicants for the Job Corps are bemg welcomed in all Utah Employment Security Offices from Logan on the north to Cedar City on the South reported re-ported LeRue E. Thurston, the manager of the Provo Employment Employ-ment Security Office. Young men between the ages of 16 ad 21 can apply for the Job Corps and may receive training in two types of centers. cen-ters. One kind is located on pub-he pub-he land such as National Parks and Forrests, while the other centers may be located in or near large cities where a more specialized type of training train-ing may be had. Mr. Thurston said trainees will receive basic education, job training, and the experience exper-ience of developing good work habits. They will also get room and board, clothing and spending spend-ing money of $30 a month. Also, when they leave they will. receive a bonus of $50 for each month of satisfactory service in the Job Corps. Mr. Thurston explained that if the corpsman wants to send some of his money home instead in-stead of saving it he can send up to $25 each month and the Job Corps will send the same amount. Thus the corpsman will be saving $25 and his family fam-ily may receive up to $50 for each month he is in the Job Corps. The Job Corps is entirely voluntary and one may leave it any time, but Mr. Thurston said if he stays in the Job Corps and completes his training train-ing he will be better able to get a job, return to school, or join the armed services. Another important feature of training in the Job Corps is that each man has only himself as a competitor. He learns at his own rate ad according ac-cording to his own abilities and interests. Each center has qualified people available to every corps-man corps-man for guidance and counseling counsel-ing and all centers have movies, mov-ies, athletics, games, libraries and various kinds of entertainment enter-tainment available. Mr. Thurston pointed out that applications received by State Employment Security . Offices on or before June 15 will receive re-ceive first consideration in assignments. |
