Show imral act eilfti p lire taflai Over 180 paintings for public viewing An invitation is extended to the public to attend the opening open-ing art program at 7 p.m., tonight, to-night, Thursday, April 1, in the high school auditorium. President Omar Hansen of the art board will be in charge. Programs for students of the high school will also be held today. Because of the large studentbody, the group will be divided and there will be two programs both similar to the public program this evening. Frank Magleby of the BYU art department, will be the speaker. There will be a vocal quintet of junior and senior students and a dance group of senior girls. Heather Lawrence and Edwin Jackson will give readings; Carol Lee Eberhardt will render a piano selection and Robert Sayer and Margaret Margar-et Sayer, an accordian duet. The art queen and attendants attend-ants will be presented. At the close of the program, the public will be invited to view the paintings in the gallery, gal-lery, which will be officially opened Thursday. Approximately 20 states are represented by the exhibiting artists in this year's show which comprises over 180 painting and pieces of statuary. statu-ary. Over 90 exhibiting artists are from Utah with at least 31 of the number being from Salt Lake City. Other cities throughout the state are represented. rep-resented. The LeBraun Galleries of New York and Florida have sent paintings to the exhibit this year as has the Blue Door Gallery of Taos of New Mexico and the ACA Gallery of New York. Among the states represented represent-ed in the exhibit are: California, Califor-nia, New York, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Ohio, Conneticut, Michigan, Montana, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Idaho, Ida-ho, Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, Jer-sey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Arizona, Colorado and Utah. Expected to attract special interest of local art visitors are the entries by former Springville High School art students, whose paintings may reflect to some extent, the early training and experiences, which they received in art in Springville. RaNae Hatch Hatfield, Hat-field, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Hatch, now living in August, Ga., has two fine entries in the show, "Beach Walk," and "To Kent, With Love," and Colleen Lewis Parker, Par-ker, Rexburg, Idaho, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Lewis of Springville has two lovely paintings, "Cosmos," and "Trees," in this year's national exhibit. At least three Springville artists, Glen Turner, Rell Francis Fran-cis and F. Calvin Packard, are represented in the show. |
